.bitcoin
The last TLD

Someone just asked ICANN for .bitcoin — a real top-level domain. The crypto .com. This is a community token celebrating that, and nothing more. We are not that project.

What this is NOT

Put at the top instead of buried in the footer, because this is the part people get wrong.

NOT the domainHolding this gives you no .bitcoin address, no reservation, no priority. Nothing.
NOT officialNo connection to ICANN, to Wiz, or to mempool.space. Nobody there was asked or involved.
NOT funding itYour money does not reach the application and does not help it in any way.
NOT an investmentNo product, no revenue, no roadmap, no team building anything. It's a token.
NEWS FLASH this part is real

Why now

None of this is ours. Sources are at the bottom of the page.

ICANN opens the window

The 2026 round of the new top-level domain programme begins — the first since 2012.

Wiz announces a bid for .bitcoin

The operator behind mempool.space goes public with a community priority application and gives the community one week to rally behind it before the window closes.

One week to rally the community

Wiz asks Bitcoin organisations and contributors for public statements of support — node operators, protocol contributors, wallets, miners — to back the community claim. ICANN has not published the list of applied-for strings yet, so whether anyone else went for the same one is not known.

Application window closes — 23:59 UTC

The 2026 guidebook bans private deals to settle a contested string: the only two routes are a community priority evaluation or an ICANN auction, where .bitcoin lands with whoever pays most.

THE TOKEN where it actually lives

It runs on Spark, not on Bitcoin itself

Spark is a Bitcoin layer 2 launched in 2025 and run by Lightspark and Flashnet. It uses statechains: instead of broadcasting a transaction, what changes is who is allowed to spend a given UTXO. Transfers settle instantly and cost almost nothing. You only pay Bitcoin network fees when you move money in or out of Spark.

Tokens on Spark are called BTKN — an adaptation of the LRC-20 standard. Unlike Runes on Bitcoin's base layer, a BTKN name is not restricted to the letters A–Z, which is why this one can simply be called .bitcoin.

The honest trade-off. Spark is 1-of-n: your funds are safe as long as one operator behaves. Operators cannot cryptographically prove they deleted their keys, so in theory all of them colluding could double-spend. If every operator goes offline, transfers stop — but you can always exit to Bitcoin L1 on your own. That is the deal you accept in exchange for instant, near-free transactions. Decide with that in front of you, not after.

HOW TO BUY bridge your BTC first

Five steps, start to finish

Everything happens on utxo.fun, which has its own wallet built in — you do not need to install anything first. The only slow part is the first bridge from Bitcoin.

Open utxo.fun

Go to utxo.fun/explore. That is where the token trades.

Create a wallet

Make one right there. Write down whatever recovery phrase it gives you, on paper. Lose it and nobody can get your funds back — not us, not them.

Hit deposit

This bridges bitcoin from the base layer into Spark, where the token lives.

Pick a deposit method

Choose the one that suits you and follow the prompts. Send a small test amount the first time if it makes you more comfortable.

Wait for the BTC to land

A deposit needs Bitcoin confirmations, so give it around 30 minutes. Once it shows up, buying is instant and costs almost nothing.

Then: check the address

Match the token address, never the name. Anyone can create a token called .bitcoin. Only one address is the real one, and it is published on this page the moment it exists.

FAQ the questions people actually ask

Straight answers

Do I get a .bitcoin domain?

No. Not a domain, not a reservation, not priority, not a discount, not early access. Holding this token gives you exactly zero claim on anything ICANN decides. If a registry ever opens, you queue up like everybody else.

Is this Wiz's token? Is it official?

No. Wiz filed the actual application and has nothing to do with this page. Neither does mempool.space, neither does ICANN. Nobody there was asked, involved or paid. We are fans of the idea, not part of it.

Why Spark and not Bitcoin itself?

Two reasons. On Bitcoin's base layer the token standard is Runes, and Rune names only accept the letters AZ — no dots — so it could never actually be called .bitcoin. And every trade would cost a Bitcoin fee and wait ten minutes. On Spark it keeps its real name, settles instantly and costs almost nothing.

What are the risks of Spark itself?

Spark is 1-of-n: safe as long as one operator is honest. Operators cannot prove they deleted their keys, so in theory all of them colluding could double-spend. If they all go offline, transfers stop — though you can still exit to Bitcoin L1 unilaterally. It is a young layer 2. Treat it as one.

What if ICANN rejects the application?

Then there is no .bitcoin. The string stays undelegated and the next chance is a future application round, years away. That is not the same as losing an auction — an auction only happens if several applicants want the same string. The token is unaffected either way, because it was never tied to the outcome. That is the whole reason for saying so upfront.

How do I know I am buying the real one?

Match the token address, never the name. Anyone can mint a token called .bitcoin on any chain; only one address is ours. It is published on this page the moment it exists, and repeated in the bar at the bottom of your screen so you never have to scroll for it.

Why Bitcoin and not Solana?

Because the domain is .bitcoin. Launching it anywhere else would be the joke telling itself wrong.
